AVATAR is a 2009 American science fiction epic film written and directed by talented movie director James Cameron. Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang played the lead parts. The word Avatar originated in Indian mythology. It means "god's visit to Earth to fix something that is broken". Vishnu, one of the 3 gods protecting creation, visits Earth frequently. According to Hindu mythology, Vishnu is dark-blue in color. Having been possibly inspired by Hindu mythology, James Cameron has also decided to paint the aliens blue. Set in the year 2154 on an alien moon called Pandora located the Alpha Centauri star system, Avatar movie tells the timeless story of greed, immaturity and the ferocity that arises out of ignorance. The plot of the story revolves around a soldier - Jack - who comes Pandora the moon placed in the Alpha Centauri star system to help The Corporation that wants to mine and export a precious mineral called unobtainium. The Na'vi are the alien sentient humonoid civilisation thriving on the planet. They are a part of a huge symbiotic living system including animals and plants which are all connected by a biological interaction network. The Corporation plans to mine the planet and the Na'vi fight for their homeland. The speedy expansion and growth of the mining colony threatens the existence of the local tribe. Jack is taken in by the Na'vi and explores their habitat, culture and language. Natirii, the female Na'vi he meets, helps him through this journey. Jake falls in love with her. Avatars are biological creatures made from human and alien DNA. They are controlled by a human being from whose DNA they were made. The soldier controls an avatar that is made from his brother's DNA. AVATAR draws a picture of an ideal world. The end of the film is particularly poignant. The visual effects are fantastic. The alien world Cameron and his highly professional team display to the viewer is one of the most carefully thought-out and consistent. The movie is worth viewing. |
